Print companies or print shops are a fairly common type of business but not all are the same or at the same level. You may well have a few locally and a few available to choose from online but whoever you choose it’s best to go for a company with a good reputation, good customer service and ideally who have been established some time. Having said all this you need to make sure you choose a company who can deal with your requirements.
Most print shops deal with everyday business printing needs: like business stationary and printed marketing literature. For these seemingly simple items though quality is still vital, not least for the business stationary which some people think of as being purely practical but can be seen as Marketing literature in its own right.

Business cards can make the difference between whether the person you meet picks up the phone and arranges another meeting or even makes an order and whether they chuck the card in the bin. A poorly made business card on card that is more like paper with poor printing may actually lose you more business than not having a card to give someone at all. Poor quality printing shows that you may not be successful enough for decent cards or that your work may be of a similar standard and the same is true if the design is poor especially if you are involved in anything creative.

Headed paper and compliment slips that are poorly printed can be even worse as they may go out to people that have never had the advantage of meeting you and seeing what kind of a person you are or your team are and will base everything on the headed paper you use.
Items like flyers and postcards up to brochures and catalogues are worth doing well if they are worth doing, again it is what the quality says about the quality of your business but it also needs to work well in terms of design and the printing so that people pay attention. This is perhaps most true for flyers and postcards that may be distributed by hand or by post unsolicited, if it doesn’t catch the eye and get the important information across it’s headed straight for the bin.

You will for some print jobs have a very clear need to use Lithographic or Digital printing such as using Digital for small batches or Litho for the best possible quality but there are also cases where making the choice may be tough. A Litho print is usually better quality but the cost means small runs make little sense, people often go for longer runs than they need because it works out so much cheaper but if you simply waste the extra then there’s little point. Digital is more flexible if you change details on a regular basis such as offers on flyers or you are likely to change details like addresses for headed paper and business cards. If ever in doubt concerning quality both for printing or for paper simply make sure you get to see some samples first and remember that digital print quality can vary greatly depending on equipment.
